Top 5 drug Lords of all time
As many of you might have watched one of the best Netflix series, ‘Narcos’. The first two seasons features the life of one of the best drug lord ever. Let’s take some time and talk about the best 5 drug lords ever.
First place obviously goes to one and only, Pablo Escobar. Not only he was a drug trafficker but he was also responsible for many killings that took place in Columbia. He is responsible for more than 4,000 deaths before he died in 1993. During his peek time he smuggled more than 15 tons of cocaine every day in U.S.
He controlled 80% of the world cocaine market through 1970s and 80s. But his greatest fear was of extradition. So great was his fear of extradition that Escobar offered to pay off Colombian government's debt that had reached a massive 10 billion dollars!
He built his own luxurious prison called ‘La cathedral’ that was guarded by his loyal army. Once on his running spree, he even burnt more than 2 million dollars to keep his daughter from catching cold. He was the wealthiest man of that time.
But in 1993 he was shot dead by Columbian authorities.
Frank Lucas also know as ‘superbly’. He was one of the biggest drug dealers and organised crime bosses in New York City during the 1960s and early 1970s. He was arrested and was sentenced for 70 years but got released after 15 years.
He was making one million dollar a month before his bust in 1975. To hide his illegal wealth, he invested in some legitimate businesses. Lucas admitted that to smuggle drugs in Vietnam, he hid them in coffins for dead soldiers.
In 1984 he was arrested again for seven year and when he got released in 1991, he returned to Harlem where he saw how his business brought misery to many.
How can we forget about El chap. Real name "Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman", is the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and one of the Mexico’s most powerful kingpins. The cartel is the source of largest percentage of drugs in the America every year.
He was born in a poor family, but in 2009 he was in the Forbes list of wealthiest people with net worth of more that $1 billion. He is also known as ‘Osama Bin laden’ of drug trafficking.
He broke the maximum security prison twice. First in 2001 and Univision reported that "Investigators and witnesses assert that Guzman left walking through the main doors with the complicity of numerous public officials." And most recently in July 2015, using a mile-long tunnel that led directly to his cell.
‘King Larry’, ‘Prince Larry’, ‘The King of Kings’ are all his names. He was the leader of Black gangster Discipline Nation in Chicago and controlled the south side of the city.
Barksdale shooting and injury gave in power in 1969. He took charge of his range and made a profit of more than $1,000 a day. He was unable to escape from the long arms of law and was sentenced to 150 to 200 years in prison, "Man! That’s a lot!"
But his power never decreased as he controlled the business from inside the cell. His devotees grew as he protected other inmates and made them recruits for the Gangster Discipline. Hoover’s story was immortalised in rapper Rick Ross’ song "BMF" in 2010.
